Ansoo Lake literally means ‘Tear Lake’. It is got the name due to its tear or raindrop shape. It is located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Mansehra region. It is one of the high altitude lakes at the altitude of 4,245m. The lake was unknown till 1993. It is located near the highest mountains ( Malika Parbat ) in the Kaghan Valley.

You can’t find the lake on your own and will need a local guide to help you around. The area is remote and deserted with no population and villages. The lake is frozen even in summers. It is a six-hour trek to reach that peak from where one can view Ansoo lake. The lake is not visible mostly because of heavy fog and snow all around.

Ther are two routes to reach Ansoo lake. First, by Lake Saif Ul Malook it is seven to nine hours of the trek. It is recommended to start trekking early in the morning as it will be difficult to trek at night. The first part of the trek takes you to Malka e Parbat and second from Malka e Parbat’s base camp to Ansoo Lake.

Second, by village Mahandri which is located south of Naran. You can reach the valley by jeep. From where a trek of about 7 hours green meadows called Dher comes. Then finally you can reach to Ansoo Lake.
