Gilgit Baltistan has three main divisions; Baltistan, Gilgit and Diamer. The Baltistan region’s capital is Skardu. The region is predominantly populated with Balti speaking people. The Diamer region is still unexplored. The people mostly speak Shina language and its capital is in Chilas. The Gilgit region capital is Gilgit city. The people  of the region speak many different languages including Shina, Burushaki, Wakhi, and Khowar.

Touristic Places in Each region of Gilgit Baltistan

All the regions in Gilgit Baltistan have some similar and some unique landscape. The region has a shared history but each ethic group has maintained their unique cultural identity. The Karakorams spread throughout the region is the most famous land feature of Gilgit Baltistan. The Karakorams have some of the world’s heighest mountains, world’s longest glaciers, high altitude lakes, meadows, most remote valleys and much more. 

Baltistan region is popoular of the mighty Karakoram mountains inclidung the second highest mounatian in the world- K2, some of the longest glaciers, the most amazing lakes and alpine forest.

Diamer region is known for the lush green mountains,  meadows, beautiful lakes and the Nanga Parbat. The three might mountain rannges meet in this region.

Gilgit region is well known for the impressive Karakoram Highway (KKH), the Karakoram, glaciers and the highest border crossing the Khunjerab Pass (Pak-China Border).

Flights

There are two airports in the region one in Gilgit city and the other in Skardu city. 

Flights fly regular from Islambad to Gilgit and Skardu. Additional flights also fly from Karachi to Skardu. Weather conditions a big factor when flying to the region as the flying routes goes from some of the highest mountains in the world.
